Dowagiac Union High School will be represented during an all-Michigan high school band event at Western Michigan University on Thursday, March 29.
Two all-star ensembles will be created as part of the 39th annual spring conference on wind and percussion music hosted by WMU's School of Music.
The 120-member Eric Ewazen All-Star Band will perform in James W. Miller Auditorium.
Members of the Eric Ewazen All-Star Band from DUHS include Jordan Eby, trombone, and Heather O'Neill and Brooke Warner, clarinets, according to DUHS Band Director Josh Bartz.
The All-Star Repertory Band will spend time reading newly-published works for band.
Nearly 200 outstanding young musicians from 60 Michigan high schools were nominated by their band directors for seats in these two ensembles.
The Eric Ewazen All-Star Band will be conducted by Eric Ewazen, this year's guest composer, and Robert Spradling, WMU director of bands.
The All-Star Repertory Band will be hosted by David Montgomery, WMU assistant director of bands.
Professors from the WMU School of Music selected those who will have the opportunity to participate in these all-star ensembles.
The spring conference on wind and percussion music will conclude with an evening concert featuring university ensembles and the Eric Ewazen All-Star Band.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Auditorium on the university's Kalamazoo campus. It is open to the public, free of charge.
