ST. LOUIS – Part II of the American Soybean Association (ASA) Leadership At Its Best program, sponsored by Syngenta America, was held recently in Washington, D.C. in conjunction with the ASA board meeting.
Herb Miller, a director of the Michigan Soybean Association board, joined association leaders from 16 states and Canada to complete advanced leadership training that provides the skills necessary to be an effective voice for the U.S. soybean farmer.
Part II specifically focuses on key legislative issues affecting the U.S. soybean industry and concludes with visits to state congressmen/women and senators on Capitol Hill.
Miller, a grower from Pokagon Township, farms soybeans, wheat, alfalfa/hay and corn and has a small beef herd.
Miller is also a director of the Cass County Farm Bureau and a member of NCGA.
"Leadership At Its Best is a specialized training curriculum that develops a key group of state leaders to effectively address Congress and the media on policy issues impacting soybean farmers," said Rick Ostlie, ASA president. "In the face of challenging times, strong leadership is critical to defining agriculture's future."
The American Soybean Association and Syngenta America have partnered on this important leadership program for the past 15 years and have graduated almost 300 farmer-leaders.
