NILES – Will the impending sale of Dollar General stores to the private equity firm of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts affect the brand's two Niles locations?
Not according to Kent Greenall, manager of the Niles stores.
Although the corporation will reportedly close 400 hundred stores – an estimated 5 percent of the total number – Niles will not lose its two.
"Actually there are plans to open more than will be closing now. We are currently looking at land nearby and hope to open another east-end location by mid-summer. We have great customers out here. Even since the flood, we have people stopping by hoping to pick up one or two items, without going across town to our other store," Greenall said.
However, a flood at the Eastgate location earlier this month forced the closure of the popular east-end location. Today, the store's staff is busy taking inventory count and cheering themselves by happily looking forward to the groundbreaking of a brand new store.
"Only the least profitable stores will be closing and there is no possibility that either Niles location falls into that category. Many stores that have been neglected in other parts of the country are being revamped," he said.
