Niles District Library supports the work of local artists in a wide range of ways.
For example, the library sponsors a monthly writers group, the Lardner Writers Ring. Another library sponsored group, Library Voices, performs reader's theatre.
In the coming months, these two groups will be undertaking a new project which will result in a radio theatre production which will be made available through the Internet. We are looking for creative people to join with us in this project.
We will need local writers to submit scripts for this project. Tonight, March 15, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Nancy Studebaker will meet with writers to discuss the details of what is needed. Anyone interested in writing is welcome to attend this orientation.
For those who cannot attend tonight, a second meeting is planned for Saturday, March 17 from 1 to 2 p.m.
A two-day Radio Theatre Workshop will be offered on two Saturdays, April 14 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 pm. The workshop will take participants through the entire process of radio theatre production: scriptwriting, radio theatre history, sound effect techniques, music in radio theatre, rehearsal, performance and recording.
Anyone interested in performance, writing, sound effects or other aspects of radio theatre is welcome to attend. Call the library's information desk to register (required).
In addition to these activities, Library Voices meets at the library on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The Lardner Writers Ring meets on the third Thursday of each month, at the library, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. These groups are always ready to welcome new participants.
