With the many meetings to attend and projects to complete, those who donate their time to help their communities can feel sometimes their commitment is too overwhelming.
Whether the concern is to encourage businesses and industry to settle in Michigan, or to get a bond proposal passed to improve our schools, our community and school leaders have a tough job.
A pleasant and tasty thank you was given in Cassopolis over the week end by the pastor and cooks of Christ Temple Church, who held an appreciation breakfast. Included were the presidents of companies, other area pastors, our law enforcement officers, village officials and school leaders.
Discussed was the upcoming school bond proposal, to create a new pre-kindergarten building and also make needed renovations to the high school.
Like Brandywine and Niles school districts, the Cassopolis district has buildings with major needs.
The ones who should be behind these proposals, educating voters to the districts' needs and then getting them to the polls, shouldn't just be the leaders.
Good schools encourage more families to come into an area, which in turn brings more industry and business. It is a win-win for all. But it isn't free, these things take both time and money.
Don't leave it up to the ones who are already doing so much for the community. Learn what is needed in your community and get involved.
