Clark, Bruens named Athletes of the Week

Dowagiac seniors Brittany Bruens and Amos Clark have been named the Daily News Athletes of the week for Feb. 26 through March 3.
Bruens, one of the top performers on the Dowagiac varsity volleyball team, was named to the second team of the All-Wolverine Conference team, which was released last week.
Bruens led Dowagiac with 16 kills in its Class B District loss to Three Rivers.
Clark helped Dowagiac clinch a share of the Wolverine Conference basketball championship with 20 points against Three Rivers.
Clark then helped Dowagiac clinch the outright league championship with 22 points against Paw Paw.
Junior Drew Staley and sophomore Emily Primley were named the Daily News Athletes of the week for Feb. 19-24.
Staley finished third on Saturday at the Division 3 wrestling regional at Zeeland West High School in Holland, to advance to the state wrestling finals March 8-10 at The Palace in Auburn Hills.
Staley won a district title to kick off the post season and was 3-1 on Saturday to advance to the state finals.
Primley, who is a left side hitter for the Chieftains, finished with 10 kills and two blocks at the Wolverine Conference Tournament last Saturday.
The Chieftains went 0-2 at the tournament and finished 10th in the league.
Dowagiac will compete in the Class B District Tournament on Saturday in Three Rivers. The Chieftains will face the host Wildcats at 9 a.m.
Each week, the Daily News will select two Athletes of the Week.
The selections come from nominations from the Dowagiac Union High School coaching staff.
These are the final Athletes of the Week for winter sports.
