Niles volleyball team falls to district champion

PORTAGE – The Niles varsity volleyball team was eliminated from post season play on Friday afternoon by host Portage Northern.
The Lady Huskies dispatched the Lady Vikings in the Class A District semifinals in three games.
Niles, which defeated Kalamazoo Central in four games on Tuesday, fell to eventual champion Portage Northern, 25-7, 25-20 and 25-17.
Portage Central, a winner of Benton Harbor on Tuesday night, advanced to the finals against their arch rival with a 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19 win over Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
In the championship match, Portage Central was no match for the Lady Huskies.
Portage Northern defeated the Lady Mustangs 25-17, 25-16 and 25-8 to claim the championship.
The Class C district tournament at Buchanan will get under way today at 10 a.m.
Brandywine will face Watervliet at 10 a.m., while the host Lady Bucks will square off against The Lady Mustangs at approximately 11:30 a.m.
The championship match is slated for noon.
