Cass fair animal dates set

CASSOPOLIS – All youth livestock exhibitors at the Cass County Fair should note the following possession and validation dates for the 2007 Cass County Fair.
All youth entry forms and pen reservation forms must be received by the MSU Extension office by June 17.
Entry forms and fair premium books will be available the last week of May or can be accessed on the internet at www.casscountyfair.com.
Dairy feeder steer projects must be in the possession of the exhibitor by April 15.
All animals must attend the validation and weigh-in at the Cass County Fairgrounds on April 14 or 15 to be weighed and tagged.
Dairy feeder steers must be RFID tagged prior to arriving at validation.
May 1 is the possession date for all dairy cattle, swine and beef breeding projects.
All bovine will be subject to State of Michigan requirements for RFID tagging.
Sheep must be owned by May 1 and attend validation at the Cass County Fairgrounds on May 5 or 6 to be weighed and tagged.
This is the first year that sheep need to be validated.
Weights recorded during the validation will be the official weights used for the rate-of-gain competition.
All sheep must be in compliance with scrapies regulations.
All goats must be in the exhibitor's possession by May 1.
Market goats will be validated on May 6 at the Cass County Fairgrounds.

The possession date for horse projects is May 1.
All horse exhibitors must have a horse identification sheet on file at the MSU Extension office by May 15.
The identification sheet must include a photo or animal description and proof of a negative Coggins test.
The exhibitor must own all rabbits, cavies and pocket pets by July 6.
All rabbits (market, breeding and pee wee) must be validated on July 6 or 7 at the Cass County Fairgrounds.
All poultry must be in the possession of the exhibitor by July 7.
Exhibitors will need to band all market birds prior to arriving at the fair.
Bands will be available from the MSU Extension office.
All dogs must be in the possession of the youth by April 1.
A dog identification form must be turned in to the MSU Extension office by May 15, including a photo of the dog and proof of rabies and DHLPP immunizations.
Additional information for each species may be obtained by contacting the species superintendent or the MSU Extension office.
A one-page information sheet outlining all requirements and important dates for the fair is available for each species.
Youth wishing to exhibit an animal at the 2007 Cass County Fair should note all prerequisites that must be met in order to exhibit or sell the animal.
Each exhibitor selling small animal species (goats, poultryor rabbits) must complete a record book for each species they sell.
All swine exhibitors must have a current Pork Quality Assurance number. For a list of dates, times and locations contact the Cass County MSU Extension office.
