Dowagiac freshmen win 11th straight contest

The winning streak has reached 11 games for the Dowagiac freshmen basketball team.
The Chieftains knocked off visiting Gull Lake on Friday night, 59-43, to improve to 12-3 on the season.
Dowagiac held a slim 15-13 lead after one period of play, which it increased to 29-21 by the intermission.
Dowagiac upped its lead to 14 points by the end of the third quarter by outscoring the Blue Devils 20-14.
Dowagiac maintained its lead in the final eight minutes and finished with a 16-point victory.
Brandon Douglas led all scorers with 19 points. He also grabbed 20 rebounds.
Dowagiac, which played without starting point guard Jalen Nickens, also got 18 points from Damone Huff and 16 points from Cody Cox.
JV basketball
The Dowagiac junior varsity basketball team hung with visiting Gull Lake right up until the final few minutes before the Blue Devils pulled away to a 53-44 victory on Friday night.
Shaun Bruens led Dowagiac (4-11) with 14 points. Zach Russom and Michael Filley both finished with nine points, while Greg Nelson chipped in with seven points.
The freshmen and junior varsity squads are back in action on Tuesday night as they host Allegan.
The freshmen game will begin at 4:15 p.m., while the JV contest is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.
