BUCHANAN – Buchanan notched another Lakeland Conference win on the hardwood floor Friday night as the Bucks defeated visiting River Valley, 59-47.
Buchanan finished the night with three players in double figures with Avery Brown knocking down 17 points. Marquis Hall dropped in 14 and Derek Anglero chipped in with 11 for Buchanan. Nate Swords led all scorers with 18 for the Mustangs.
"When you got a guy like Swords who is a real beast down low and we focused on not letting him get to many second chances," Buchanan coach Reid McBeth said. "He kept them in the game and their whole game plan was around him. He is a tough guy for anyone to guard."
Buchanan held a five point lead at the half, 30-25, in a close first half. River Valley tied the game at 39 with one minute to play in the third and took their second and final lead of the game early in the fourth, 42-41, before the Bucks took control of the game. That's when they went on an 11-0 run to take the Mustangs out of the contest. Buchanan hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:29 to seal the win.
Buchanan will travel to Edwardsburg on Tuesday for another Lakeland Conference game.
