Congratulations to the Niles, Brandywine and Buchanan wrestling teams for their Michigan High School Athletic Association team district wrestling championships.
The Vikings and Bobcats won their titles on Wednesday night while the Bucks captured a crown on Thursday.
For Niles, it was the first district title in 16 seasons.
The Vikings have had an outstanding season and are sending off retiring coach Bob Galvin with a bang.
This season has seen Niles capture the Big 16 West Division championship and both SMAC tournament titles.
The Vikings have finally gotten the monkey off their back when it comes to defeating area powerhouse Lakeshore.
Niles snapped Lakeshore's decade-long dominance of the Berrien County Invitational and broke the Lancers' five-year hold on the Southwest Michigan Invitational.
Brandywine and Buchanan slugged it out for the Lakeland Conference championship this season.
The Bucks came away with the league title.
The Bobcats racked up another district championship with a win over River Valley on Wednesday night.
Buchanan waited more than a decade to win its another district title last year. The Bucks weren't about to go another 10 years without a crown.
Buchanan knocked off Dowagiac in the title match Thursday night to make it back-to-back championships.
All our area teams are in action this weekend as the individual portions of the state tournament get under way.
Niles will travel to Three Rivers while Buchanan, Dowagiac and Edwardsburg will compete in Centreville.
Brandywine and Cassopolis will travel to Covert for the Division 4 tournament.
Get out and support our wrestlers as they begin their travels down championship road.
