Dowagiac freshmen win 10th straight contest

The beat goes on for the Dowagiac freshmen basketball team.
The Chieftains ran their record to 11-3 on Wednesday night with a 67-49 victory over visiting Vicksburg.
The win was the 10th straight for Dowagiac, which was making up a game from Tuesday night.
The Chieftains led 23-15 after one period of play and 35-23 by halftime.
Dowagiac scored 20 points in the third quarter to open up a 55-37 lead heading into the final period.
Brandon Douglas scored a game-high 33 points for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac also got 16 points from Jalen Nickens and seven points from Cody Cox.
JV basketball
A late basket lifted visiting Vicksburg to a 51-48 victory over the Dowagiac junior varsity basketball team on Wednesday night.
Dowagiac trailed 6-4 after one period and 21-12 at halftime.
The Bulldogs held a 36-29 lead heading into the final eight minutes of the contest.
Dowagiac rallied to tie the game at 48, but fell in the closing moments.
Shaun Bruens led Dowagiac with 14 points. Michael Filley added 10 points, while Greg Nelson finished with seven.
Dowagiac is back in action on Friday night when it hosts Gull Lake.
