NILES – A light agenda will be presented to the Niles City Council this evening, as only two new items will be presented to the board.
Council members will consider a resolution in support of renaming the Niles Main Street Bridge as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bridge. Sen. Ron Jelinek, R-Three Oaks, proposed legislation the week of Jan. 22 in Lansing to name the Main Street Bridge in downtown Niles the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bridge.
The other item under consideration is for the city to purchase a piece of furniture originally in the city hall building. Termed only as "period furniture," Terry Eull, Niles city administrator, declined to identify the piece of furniture out of concern other parties may try to purchase the item once the city's interest in the piece was known.
The city is slated to spend $6,000 on the piece, if the purchase is approved.
