NILES – It was easy to see why the Coloma varsity volleyball team is undefeated on the season.
The Comets (7-0 in conference) posted a 3-0 Lakeland Conference win over host Brandywine Wednesday night.
Brandywine is now 3-4 in the LAC.
Coloma took a 25-11 win in the first game, a 25-13 win in the second and, in the third, the Bobcats put up a huge battle, only falling by two, 26-24.
"I was happy with the team's spirit tonight. They never gave up, although we still don't fully believe in ourselves yet. It'll come – hopefully before it's too late for this year," Bobcat head coach Martin Klubeck said.
Klubeck stated the difference in the game was the fact that the Comets expect to win every game.
"Coloma's a great team, two power hitters and the middle did a good job for them tonight hitting some quick sets. But, we should be right there with them, in every game," Klubeck said.
Statistically for the Bobcats, Melissa Cooper had five digs, five assists and six kills. Kendra Zache had 13 digs, five kills and two aces. Emily Low contributed five digs, 11 assists and two aces. Jenna Harris had six kills and two blocks. Alexa Perry ended with 14 digs and two aces. Katie Smallwood had 13 digs and two blocks. Mallory Barber had six kills and Julie Barnett had 13 digs.
"We don't have as much flair (yet), but we also don't have any gaping holes. We're a very solid team, we just don't know it yet," Klubeck added.
Brandywine will travel to the Hopkins Invitational on Saturday. Games begin at 9 a.m.
