Dowagiac freshmen win seventh straight

THREE RIVERS – The Dowagiac freshmen basketball team rolled to its seventh straight victory against host Three Rivers on Tuesday night.
The Chieftains (8-3) jumped out to a 36-10 halftime advantage and never looked back in winning 52-25.
Dowagiac led 15-4 after one period of play and continued to play well throughout the contest.
Jalen Nickens nearly outscored Three Rivers by himself as he finished with a game-high 24 points.
The Chieftains also got 15 points from Brandon Douglas and five points from Cody Cox.

Dowagiac continued to struggle Tuesday night as it dropped to 3-8 on the season with a 52-40 setback against host Three Rivers.
Dowagiac led 15-12 after one period of play, but trailed 27-19 at the intermission.
Three Rivers increased its lead to 44-27 at the end of three quarters and then cruised home with the win.
Zach Russom led Dowagiac with 13 points, while Michael Filley added 11 points. Shaun Bruens and Greg Nelson both netted five points for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac is back in action on Friday as it travels to Plainwell.
The Chieftains, who will play six games in 10 days, will host South Haven on Saturday.
The freshmen game will begin at 4:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, while the junior varsity game is scheduled for approximately 5:45 p.m.
