DMS spikers open season against South Haven

The Dowagiac Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams finally got their seasons started on Thursday.
The Chieftains had their season openers canceled due to weather conditions earlier this week.
The seventh grade Orange team picked up a 25-7, 26-24 and 13-15 victory over the Lady Rams, while the Black team defeated South Haven, 25-12, 25-8 and 15-12.
Shelby Bruens led the Orange team with 11 points, while Megan Hojara added nine points. Correshia Rodgers and Beth Losey both finished with eight points.
Regina Kennedy led the Black team with 16 points. Erica Greenwood added 13 and Emily Smith 10 points.
The eighth grade Black team also was a winner as it knocked off the Lady Rams, 25-16, 25-12 and 15-8.
Top servers were Ashley Charles, Liz Huff and Ashley McElheny.
