DUHS freshmen, JV cagers both win

PAW PAW – Visiting Dowagiac posted easy victories on Friday night against the Paw Paw freshmen and junior varsity basketball teams.
The Chieftain freshmen squad won its sixth straight game with a 69-39 victory over the Redskins. The Dowagiac JV snapped a two-game losing streak with a 43-29 win.

Paw Paw held a six-point halftime advantage before the Chieftains exploded in the third quarter.
Dowagiac poured in 25 points to take a 56-34 lead heading into the final period.
Jalen Nickens led Dowagiac (7-3) with 19 points, while Damone Huff added 18 and Brandon Douglas 14. Cody Cox finished with nine points.
The Chieftains will host South Haven on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 4:15 p.m.
JV basketball
A 12-2 first quarter lead turned into a lopsided victory for the Chieftain JV squad.
Dowagiac led 26-20 at halftime, but outscored the Redskins 17-9 in the second half to pick up the victory.
The Chieftains blew the game open in the third quarter as they scored 14 points while holding Paw Paw to just four points.
Zach Russom led Dowagiac (3-7) with 12 points. Shaun Bruens, Dre Kiser and Michael Filley all scored eight points for the Chieftains.
The Chieftains will host South Haven on Tuesday night at 5:45 p.m.
