Super Bowl XLI will be one to remember.
Not only are two teams very close to our city vying for the title, but head coaches Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith are the first black coaches to make it to the nation's biggest sporting event.
Since its inception 41 years ago, the Super Bowl has not seen two African-American coaches go head-to-head. In fact, just 11 years ago, there were only three African-American coaches in the NFL. This season, there were seven.
Smith and Dungy are no strangers. The two worked together when Dungy was head coach at Tampa Bay from 1996-2000. Smith was one of his assistants and from there the two established a friendship.
Of all teams in the NFL, it's great to see that two teams so close to home, with two coaches who are great friends, battling. It's sure to set up for some big Super Bowl celebrations from shore to shore.
The Colts seem to have a pretty big following from local residents, but not as big as the Bears. 'Once a Chicago fan, always a Chicago fan' seems to be the motto for most. Even when the team has the worst record in the NFL, fans still wear their blue and orange attire with pride. People still reminisce on the day back in 1986 when the Bears claimed the Super Bowl title. The wait for the day the Bears would reach the Super Bowl again is finally over.
Colts or Bears, it's sure to be a Super Bowl that no one will forget.
