Edwardsburg tops Brandywine in conference game

NILES – A slow start eventually led to a fast comeback for the Edwardsburg varsity volleyball team during Wednesday's Lakeland Conference game against host Brandywine.
The Bobcats (2-2 LAC) opened the night with a 25-20 win in the first game and controlled most of the second. However, the Eddies, only trailing by a few points, made a comeback thanks to a strong net performance and defense. The Eddies claimed the 25-22 second game win.
Edwardsburg (3-1 LAC) posted two identical scores in the third and fourth games, winning 25-13 in both to claim the 3-1 conference win.
Edwardsburg's Evie Tafunai led the Eddies in kills with 13 on the night. Malorie Woods added 12, while Stephanie Koontz had 11.
For the Bobcats, Kendra Zache had nine kills, while Brooke Allen, Katie Smallwood and Melissa Cooper all added seven.
Brandywine's Emily Low and Edwardsburg's C.C. Roberts each had 18 assists.
The Brandywine freshmen and junior varsity teams also fell to Edwardsburg Wednesday evening.
The Bobcat's freshmen team fell in game one, 25-22, won the second game 25-22 and fell in the third 15-9.
Brandywine's JV team dropped a 30-28 decision in the first game, won the second 25-21 and fell in the third 17-15.
