NILES – In its second Indiana match-up of the season, the Niles varsity basketball team fell to host South Bend Clay Saturday evening, 67-51, in a game that slipped away from the Vikes late in the second half.
Niles held a 14-13 lead after the first period and a 40-34 lead at halftime. However, late in the third, the Colonials took the lead for good and sealed the victory in the fourth.
Head coach Todd Pawielski was pleased with his teams performance in the first half, but said that turnovers early and often worked to a disadvantage for his team.
Leading the way for the Vikes was Danny Rodts with 12 points. Taylor Williams added nine points and seven rebounds.
"Williams was our lone bright spot. He by far played his best game of the year," Pawielski said.
Niles, now 4-4, will play another border game on Tuesday when it hosts South Bend Riley. Freshmen will begin at 4:45 p.m., junior varsity at 5:45 p.m. and varsity following at 7:30 p.m.
