NILES – The 28th Annual Berrien County Meet will be held on Saturday at St. Joseph High School.
Around 12 teams from Berrien County will be in attendance, including Niles, Brandywine and Buchanan.
Lakeshore returns to try to claim its 11th title in a row, however, a 27-18 loss to Niles just last week may not be a good sign for the Lancers, who have won a total of 22 titles since the Meet began in 1979.
Lakeshore won the meet last year, ending with 211.5 points. The Vikings finished second with 196 points, while Buchanan ended in third with 173 points. St. Joseph claimed the fourth place position with 123.5 points, while Brandywine rounded out the top five with 116 points.
Last year's County champions included Niles' Bryce Flannery, who defeated Brandywine's Pat Van Laere in the 119-pound class, 6-4.
Buchanan had championship wins from Todd Taylor, who defeated River Valley's John Stein, 6-4 and David Medlin, who defeated Lakeshore's Eric Shirley, 7-1.
Ben Brandstatter and Todd Scansen also made it to the final round for Niles, but were defeated by their opponents.
David Kingsley and Nick Wheetley also advanced to the championship rounds for the Bucks, but were defeated.
Match times for Saturday's meet begin at 10 a.m. Seeds will be picked this evening. The winner will be crowned later in the evening.
