On Thursday, Nov. 16, the first through fourth grade students had the opportunity to see "Junie B. Jones the Musical."
The production was put on by TheatreWorks USA out of New York.
The group performed the musical at the Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College.
Junie B. Jones is the main character in a series of books by Barbara Park.
They are chapter books for young readers.
These books have been enjoyed by all of the Sister Lakes students!
The series starts out with Junie B. being a fun-loving and mischievous kindergartner and continues on throughout her school year.
She then goes on to first grade in Junie B. Jones, First Grader at Last, which is where the musical picked up. The performance was a great way to bring literacy to life for these students. The musical focused on many of Junie B.'s first grade adventures.
Mrs. Amundsen, library aide, and Mrs. Kyncl, first grade teacher, planned several activities for the students.
One of the activities included a book giveaway.
Sister Lakes students from each classroom were able to win one of these great chapter books.
Sister Lakes is very thankful to the Dowagiac Union Schools Foundation for providing the grant which covered the cost of the musical.
The PTO and parents at Sister Lakes also helped make this great experience possible.
