School bus drivers are given an enormous responsibility on a daily basis of transporting students to and from school.
How you ask? Would you like to drive a vehicle capable of transporting 84 passengers, negotiating traffic and performing student stops with your back to the students while driving?
School buses are considered an extension of the classroom.
The same rules that apply in the school and the classroom apply to the bus with a few more rules added for bus stop procedures.
If your son or daughter has been issued a school bus misconduct ticket, it could be that he/she acted out on the bus or at the bus stop during loading or unloading.
Discipline ranges from a warning ticket to a suspension from riding privileges on the bus.
All school bus misconduct tickets are sent home with the student. A parent or guardian's signature is required to insure that the parent or guardian is aware of what misconduct with which the student was charged.
If deemed necessary, we will involve the principal in the disciplinary action as well.
If a student reaches a 10-day suspension from the bus, a registered letter is sent in the mail notifying the parent or guardian that if the student receives one more ticket they will be suspended from bus transportation until a meeting is set up with the transportation supervisor and the assistant superintendent. This meeting will determine if permanent suspension of bus riding privileges for the rest of the school year is necessary.
It is our charge as a school district to provide safe and efficient transportation of students. A copy of the bus rules can be found in the student handbook.
