Dowagiac JV cagers pick up first victory

Dowagiac's junior varsity basketball team followed in the footsteps of the freshmen squad and picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday night.
The Chieftains (1-2) blew out visiting Plainwell, 55-37.
Both teams scored eight first quarter points, however, the Chieftains outscored the Trojans 15-8 in the second period to take a 23-16 lead at halftime.
Dowagiac outscored Plainwell by six points in the third quarter, 19-13, and by five points in the final eight minutes, 13-5.
Zach Russom led Dowagiac with 14 points. The Chieftains also had Dre Kiser with 12 points and Michael Filley with 11 points. Pedro Pinto chipped in with seven points.
On Friday night the Chieftains dropped a heart breaker to host Comstock, 67-64.
Filley led Dowagiac with 21 points. Russom finished with 13 points and Kiser 12. Drew Cooper netted eight for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac is back in action on Friday at South Haven. Tip-off is set for 5:45 p.m.
