Chieftain freshmen team wins first game

The Dowagiac freshmen basketball team picked up its first victory of the season with a 69-22 thrashing of visiting Plainwell on Tuesday night.
Dowagiac grabbed a 15-9 first quarter lead before exploding for 24 points in the second quarter.
Leading 39-19 at halftime, Dowagiac outscored Plainwell 31-3 in the second half. The Chieftains blanked the Trojans in the final quarter.
Jalen Nickens led Dowagiac with a game-high 24 points.
Damone Huff added 14 points, while Alex Miller finished with nine points, Cody Cox eight points and Andrew Cripe seven.
The Chieftains are back in action on Friday at South Haven, beginning at 4:15 p.m.
