The Dowagiac freshmen volleyball team defeating visiting Cassopolis Monday night in a non-conference match.
The Chieftains beat the Lady Rangers 25-16, 15-25 and 15-11.
The team took no statistics, however, Tiffany Tyus served up six consecutive winning points in the opening game for Dowagiac.
On Saturday at the South Haven Invitational, the Chieftains were defeated by Coloma, 21-25 and 15-25; South Haven, 9-25 and 18-25; and Delton-Kellogg, 7-25 and 20-25.
Dowagiac is back in action on Thursday against South Haven.
Play will begin at 6 p.m.
JV volleyball
Dowagiac dropped a heart breaker to visiting Buchanan Monday night, 25-15, 21-25 and 12-15.
Yasmine Chambliss had five kills and two blocks for the Chieftains, who also got six aces from Stephany Gross. Morgan Tanzillo and Linzy Kling both finished with three aces.
"Buchanan is always a tough loss for me," former Buck and current Dowagiac coach Kristien Carpentier said. "The girls played so well tonight. At certain times we lost our passing and that's how we got behind."
On Saturday at the Coloma Invitational, the Chieftains lost to Coloma, 13-25, 11-25 and 4-25; defeated Decatur, 25-10, 25-16 and 25-16; and lost in the semifinals to Berrien Springs, 7-25 and 20-25.
