Decatur man arrested in hit/run

Dowagiac Police Chief Tom Atkinson reports that at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, his officers responded to a call for a hit-and-run accident that occurred at the Manor Mini-Mart parking lot in the 100 block of W. Railroad Street.
The victim, a 24-year-old Dowagiac man, was reportedly following the vehicle in the area of Cherry Street and Pokagon Street in the City of Dowagiac, where the vehicle fled.
Dowagiac officers located the suspect vehicle in that area with the assistance of the victim.
A Dowagiac officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle when the vehicle fled from the officer.
The vehicle fled for several blocks before finally stopping in a private driveway in the area of the 100 block of Chestnut Street.
Officers were able to take the driver into custody as he was attempting to change seats with the passenger.
The driver, a 59-year-old Decatur man, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, third offense; fleeing and eluding law enforcement; driving while suspended, second offense; and leaving the scene of an accident. At the time of his arrest he was being held in the Cass County Jail without bond pending arraignment.
