Several arrests result from Oak St. traffic stop

Dowagiac Police Chief Tom Atkinson reports that his officers made several arrests resulting from a traffic stop on Saturday, Nov. 18, at approximately 11:45 p.m.
Police made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Oak Street, near East Wayne Street, in Dowagiac for an equipment violation.
Upon making contact with the driver, a 21-year -old Dowagiac man, the officer determined he was intoxicated and arrested him for operating while intoxicated.
The driver also did not have a driver's license and was arrested for driving without a license as well.
The officer then made contact with the passenger in the vehicle, an 18-year-old Dowagiac man.
The officer determined that this subject was also intoxicated and placed him under arrest for minor consuming alcohol.
Upon conducting a search of the passenger, police said they located a small amount of marijuana in the man's pocket.
The passenger was also arrested for marijuana possession.
Both subjects were transported to the Cass County Jail, where the driver was lodged on charges of operating while intoxicated and driving without a license.
The passenger was lodged on charges of possession of marijuana and minor consuming alcohol.
All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor's Office.
Names of the suspects were withheld by police pending arraignment in Fourth District Court, Cassopolis.
