CASSOPOLIS – A crash Friday morning in Jefferson Township killed a Dowagiac mother whose 3-year-old daughter was a passenger.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported his officers handled the fatal crash at M-60 and Dailey Road at 9:29 a.m. Nov. 17.
Deputies on the scene reported that a vehicle driven by Carrie Wallace, 35, of Dowagiac, and carrying her daughter, Hunter Wallace, 3, was traveling southwest on M-60.
A vehicle driven by Jacob Imanse, 17, of Edwardsburg, was northbound on Dailey when it failed to stop at the stop sign and crashed into the Wallace vehicle at the intersection.
Wallace sustained fatal injuries from the crash.
Hunter was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Niles, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Jacob Imanse was transported to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, where he was listed in stable condition.
Safety belts were used by all occupants involved in the crash.
Alcohol does not seem to be a factor, according to the sheriff, although the crash remained under investigation.
Assisting the Cass County Sheriff's Office were the Cassopolis Fire Department, Edwardsburg Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service (SMCAS) of Niles, Life Care Ambulance Service of Cassopolis and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Investigation of the crash closed M-60 at Dailey Road.
Traffic was detoured onto Hospital Street to the east and Pine Lake Street to the west.
