Sisters Holly and Torie Lowe have spent plenty of time playing basketball.
But until this season, the two never played on the same organized team.
Holly, a senior, and Torie, a freshman, have helped the Dowagiac varsity basketball team post its first winning record in nearly two decades.
The two also helped the Chieftains capture their first conference championship since 1984 and are looking forward to helping Dowagiac claim its first district title since 1977.
Besides traveling to play basketball all the time, Holly and Torie battled in the backyard.
"The one-on-one games are pretty physical," Holly said.
"They get kind of competitive," chimed Torie.
The two have worked hard to be successful and it is paying off in their first season together.
Torie is averaging just over 12 points per game, while Holly is just a shade under 10 points per game.
The pair said they were looking forward to playing together.
"I am very fortunate to play on the same team as my sister," Torie said.
Holly said that at the beginning, it was a little awkward playing together. "But not now," she noted.
When asked to critique each other's games, the two were a little hesitant.
"She is another person who is consistent game in and game out," Holly said of Torie. "She is a threat to shoot and a threat off the dribble."
"… her ability to hit the open shot and her leadership ability on and off the court," is what Torie likes about her sister.
The two agreed that the success of the team this season has been made special by their playing together.
"It's been pretty special," Holly said. "It's something we will always remember."
