Dowagiac juniors Katy Stuppy and Jamie Simpson have been named the final Daily News Athletes of the Week for fall sports.
Stuppy, who became the all-time leading scorer in Dowagiac girls' basketball history, scored 53 points and made nine 3-pointers in a pair of games against Allegan and Comstock.
Stuppy crossed the 1,000-point plateau against Gull Lake and became the all-time leading scorer at the same time. She surpassed April Danzy, who played from 1996 until 1998, as the record holder.
Simpson rushed for 142 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in Dowagiac's 32-31 loss to Battle Creek Harper Creek in the Division 4 district semifinal.
Simpson finished the 2006 season with 1,294 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns. Simpson averaged 10.1 yards per carry. He also caught seven passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
Each week, the Daily News will select two Athletes of the Week. The selections come from nominations from the Dowagiac Union High School coaching staff.
