CASSOPOLIS – The 2007 Cass County dog licenses go on sale at county Treasurer Linda Irwin's office and the Animal Control Department today, Nov. 1.
"License fees were changed by resolution of the Board of Commissioners on Oct. 5 and are set at $10 for spayed or neutered dogs," Irwin said Tuesday. "The unaltered license fee remains at $25."
"If you're a new dog owner, you can download a dog license application on the treasurer's Web site at casscountymi.org," Irwin said. "My office will be mailing dog license renewal forms later this month, however, dog owners are encouraged to purchase licenses early."
Township treasurers, the city treasurer and veterinarians will begin selling licenses on Dec. 1.
Veterinarian clinics selling Cass County dog licenses are Bergman Veterinary Medical Center, Center for Animal Health, Dowagiac Animal Hospital and East Shore Animal Hospital in the county.
Clinics selling Cass County licenses outside the county include Town and Country Veterinary Hospital in Niles, Crossroads Veterinary Clinic in Three Rivers and Kryder Veterinary Hospital in Granger, Ind.
Individuals purchasing a license for a dog between the age of four months and six months will be allowed to purchase a "puppy" license for $10.
Dog owners are required under Michigan law and county ordinance to purchase a county dog license for dogs that are four months of age or older. The dog must have a current rabies vaccination certificate issued by a certified veterinarian to purchase the license.
