BENTON HARBOR – When it comes to business, Carly Fiorina blazes new trails, takes risks and defies the odds.
This former chairman and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard led the reinvention of the global technology solutions provider that many associate with the birth of Silicon Valley.
She determinedly brought HP back to its innovation roots and spearheaded the controversial merger of HP with Compaq Computer Corp., now recognized as one of the most successful high-tech mergers in history.
For six consecutive years, Fiorina was ranked the most powerful woman in business by Fortune magazine and as of 2005 remained among the top 10 most powerful women in the world.
Over her 25-plus-year career, she has received a number of honors and recognitions including the 2003 Concern Worldwide "Seeds of Hope" Award for her worldwide efforts to make global citizenship a priority for business.
The White House also appointed her to the U.S. Space Commission to advise it on the nation's space science agenda.
Now she comes to southwestern Michigan with a wealth of knowledge of what constitutes leadership, how women can thrive in business and the role technology will play in shaping our world.
