Dowagiac harriers third at Constantine

The Dowagiac boys' cross country team finished third at the Elwin Lefever Invitational on Saturday in Constantine.
Mendon won the title with 21 points, while Colon was second with 57 points. The Chieftains took third with 94 points. Rounding out the order of finish were Howardsville Christian in fourth (109), Kalamazoo Cougars in fifth (113), Constantine in seventh (116) and Marcellus in seventh (188).
The Chieftain girls finished seventh with 151 points. Colon won the girl's title with 45 points. Mendon was second with 49 points, while the Kalamazoo Cougars were third with 61 points. Rounding out the order of finish were Constantine in fourth (69), Marcellus in fifth (128) and Howardsville Christian in sixth (147).
Dowagiac's Andrew Cuthbert, Kasey Proshwitz and Evan Bressler all earned medalist honors with their ninth, 14th and 20th place finishes. The trio was clocked at 18:14, 18:50 and 19:02 respectively.
John Morseau finished 25th for the Chieftains with a time of 19:23. Eric Morton placed 26th (19:24) and Brandon Wilson placed 41st (23:58).
"Andrew Cuthbert continues to run very well for us," Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said. "He's been our No. 1 runner each time he's raced. Kasey Proshwitz is also running strong for a freshman."
Spencer Batten of Mendon was the top finisher with a time of 16:56.
Stephanie Allen of Constantine won the girl's race with a time of 20:51.
Kayla Saviano was the top finisher for the Chieftains as she was 21st with a time of 24:26. Katie Hewitt was 31st with a time of 30:40, while Ali Hess was 32nd with a time of 31:40.
Dowagiac will compete in the Wolverine Conference meet on Tuesday at Martin Dragway.
