Freshmen, JV football teams defeated

Host Gull Lake defeated the Dowagiac freshmen and junior varsity football teams Thursday evening.
The Chieftain junior varsity squad tasted defeat for the first time this season as they dropped a 29-14 decision to undefeated Gull Lake. Dowagiac's freshmen team dropped to 0-7 on the season with a 34-12 setback.

The Chieftains trailed 14-7 at halftime, but scored the first touchdown of the second half to knot the score.
The game remained 14-14 until the final two minutes when a pair of interceptions led to two Gull Lake touchdowns.
"It was a great game," Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. "The final score is no indicative of the way the game was played. Hat's off to the Gull Lake team. They played a great game."
Dowagiac got touchdowns from Greg Nelson and Tim DeRyder. Michael Filley added a pair of extra points.
Freshmen football
John Myers scored on a 35-yard touchdown run, while Cody Cox scored on a 5-yard quarterback keeper.
Adam Roach led the defense with two sacks.
Both teams return to action on Thursday night when they host Otsego at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field. The freshmen will kick off the evening at 5 p.m. The junior varsity contest is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m.
