Speaking at the Pregnancy Care Center banquet on Oct. 24 will be Mary Verwys, founder of the Garden of Hope in Grand Rapids. Verwys is noted for her work as a sidewalk counselor for women who visit abortion clinics.
The focus of Verwys's work is in opposition of abortion, and she has written "Wednesday Mourning," a book based on her experiences standing outside abortion clinics during the past 15 years working to convince women to turn back.
The Garden of Hope Center was dedicated in 2000 and serves as a memorial to the victims of abortion as well as a place for healing for grieving mothers and families.
The banquet, entitled "A Time to Mourn, a Time to Dance," will begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Grand Upton Hall on the campus of Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor.
