Plainwell uses penalty kicks to post win

Plainwell's Shane Lyons scored four goals to lead the host Trojans to a 5-3 victory over Dowagiac in Wolverine Conference play Monday night.
Three of Lyons' four goals came off of penalty kicks. Dowagiac also scored on a penalty kick.
The match was tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Lyons gave Plainwell a 2-0 lead with goals in the 16th and 25th minutes.
Dowagiac tied the score at 2-2 when Tony Black scored on a penalty kick in the 37th minute and Clay Hewitt scored in the 38th minute off an assist from Black.
Lyons gave the Trojans a 3-2 lead in the 47th minute.
Dowagiac tied the score at 3-3, when Efrain Soto scored off an assist from Adam Hess in the 54th minute.
Lyons then scored the final two goals of the match, the first on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.
Lyons' fourth goal came in the 71st minute.
"We played well, but were overwhelmed with penalty kicks being called against us," Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. "The kids kept focused and played hard throughout the game."
Plainwell held a 16-13 advantage in shots on goal.
Dowagiac (7-8, 3-3 Wolverine) will host Gull Lake on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
JV soccer
The Dowagiac junior varsity soccer team dropped to 5-4-1 on the year as it lost to host Plainwell Monday night, 1-0.
Plainwell's goal came in the 19th minute of the match.
The Chieftains were outshot by Plainwell, 4-3.
Dowagiac is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Gull Lake at 4 p.m.
