The Dowagiac junior varsity football team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 36-12 victory over visiting Plainwell at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field.
The Chieftains freshmen football team fell to 0-6 on the year with a 30-0 loss to the Trojans.
In the junior varsity contest, Tim DeRyder caught a touchdown pass from Shaun Bruens and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. DeRyder also scored a two-point conversion.
Dowagiac also got rushing touchdowns from Aaron Caldwell and Kevin Mitchell. Michael Filley connected on all four of his extra point attempts.
Defensively, Dowagiac got pass interceptions from Drew Cooper and David Stark. Andrew Hurrle recovered a fumble.
"The offensive line of Brian Groth, Arron Talley, Jeremy Nowak, Michael Sirk, Patrick Yore and Gregory Ferrier have done a great job blocking all year and they did it again tonight," Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. "We have some talented running backs, but they can't go anywhere if we don't block."
Both teams are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Gull Lake. The freshmen game will begin at 5 p.m.
