THREE OAKS – The visiting Edwardsburg varsity basketball team held off a late River Valley charge to post a 36-35 Lakeland Conference victory on Sept. 21.
The Lady Eddies (5-3 overall, 3-2 LAC), trailed at halftime, 21-18. River Valley led 16-14 after one period of play and then extended its advantage to three points at the intermission.
The Lady Eddies outscored the Lady Mustangs 10-4 in the pivotal third quarter to take a 28-25 lead into the final period.
River Valley outscored Edwardsburg 10-8 in the final eight minutes, but could not overtake the Lady Eddies.
Stephanie Koontz and Kristin Toney both scored nine points to lead Edwardsburg offensively. Koontz also had eight rebounds.
Chrissy Breisch added six points.
River Valley was led by Valerie Schlutt's 10 points.
Edwardsburg also won the junior varsity contest. The Lady Eddies defeated the Lady Mustangs 44-24. Lindsay Harroff led the team with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Edwardsburg girls' varsity basketball team improved to 6-3 on the year with a 52-16 win over Eau Claire on Tuesday.
The Lady Eddies were led by Stephanie Koontz and Kristin Toney, who scored 18 and 13 points respectively. Koontz also had six assists.
Steffany Streb and Kelsey Moreno both finished with six points.
Edwardsburg also won the junior varsity contest 43-22.
