Residents of the Cassopolis Public Schools attendance area are encouraged to participate in the facilities assessment/planning sessions to evaluate our school buildings. These community forums will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Ross Beatty Jr./Sr. High School auditorium and on Wedensday, Oct. 25 at Sam Adams Elementary School. Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m. There will be a light snack and beverages provided.
Our goal is to improve the learning and teaching environments for students and staff. Some concerns are:
Insufficient lighting
Air quality
Outdated/inefficient heating systems
Limited electrical capacity
Inadequate sports facilities
Minimal security devices
This self-study is being facilitated by the construction company Skanska, and the architectural firm, Fanning-Howey.
The Facility Planning Committee will make recommendations to the Cassopolis Board of Education on Nov. 13. The tentative date for the Board to make a decision regarding the future learning environment for students and staff is Nov. 27. If more time is needed, this will be acted on at the Dec. 11 meeting.
Additionally, the Facility Planning Committee first met on Sept. 25, and subsequent meetings will be: Thursday, Oct. 5 at Sam Adams, Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Squires, and Thursday, Nov. 2 at Ross Beatty Junior Senior High School Library. These meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
These meetings will be to compare needs for the Cassopolis Public School facilities with national standards. Among these, we will give primary focus to an energy cost analysis, maintenance analysis, and a longevity study to determine district facility needs.
We welcome input from community members. Please call the Superintendent's office at 445-0503 or send correspondence to 63700 Brick Church Road, Cassopolis.
