Dowagiac kickers top Allegan, 4-1

After a scoreless first half, the Dowagiac varsity soccer team exploded for four goals in the final 40 minutes on its way to a 4-1 Wolverine Conference victory Monday night against Allegan.
"We moved the ball well and put a lot of pressure on their defense," Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said.
The Chieftains, who have been playing extremely well of late, opened the scoring in the 42nd minute as Adam Hess found the back of the net.
Tony Black gave the Chieftains a 2-0 lead in the 45th minute off an assist from Clay Hewitt.
Allegan averted the shutout in the 47th minute as Steve Carrol scored the lone Tigers' goals.
The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Chieftains until the 71st minute when Hewitt scored.
Dowagiac completed the scoring in the 75h minute on a goal by Andrew Cuthbert.
The Chieftains (6-6 overall, 2-2 Wolverine Conference) outshot the Tigers 26-11. Dowagiac goalkeeper Art Springsteen had 11 saves.
The Chieftains return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Kalamazoo to face Comstock in another league contest. The match is slated to begin at 6:45 p.m.
