Vicksburg topples Dowagiac in shootout

The Dowagiac varsity soccer team fell to Vicksburg in a shootout Wednesday evening.
The Chieftains and host Bulldogs were knotted at 2-2 after regulation and overtime.
Dowagiac's goals came from Andrew Cuthbert in the 23rd minute and from Clay Hewitt in the 25th minute.
Vicksburg outshot Dowagiac 19-11 in the Wolverine Conference match. Dowagiac's Art Springsteen had 11 saves.
"He played the game of his life," Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said of Springsteen. "We played the best game of our season. From front to back, the team played as one and never gave up.
"This is the team that I have been waiting all season to see. The remainder of the season is going to be tough, but those games will prepare us well for districts," Williams added.
Dowagiac returns to action on Monday when it hosts Allegan at 5:45 p.m.

The host Bulldogs scored three first half goals en route to a 4-1 win over dowagiac on Wednesday.
Dowagiac's lone goal was scored by Americo Martine in the 45th minute.
