Back-to-back matches against two of the top teams in the Wolverine Conference proved to be too much for the Dowagiac varsity tennis squad.
The Chieftains were blanked for the second straight night as they dropped an 8-0 decision to host Gull Lake on Wednesday.
Dowagiac (2-4-1, 2-3-1 Wolverine) won just four games in the singles flights and only seven games in the doubles flights.
The Chieftains' most competitive match came at No. 1 doubles where Kate Duszynski and Kayleigh Sundman lost to Mallory Setter and Lizzie Morse 6-3 and 6-2.
"Overall, we were a little flat," Dowagiac coach Chuck Rubino said. "It's tough playing two really good times like that back-to-back. The rest of our schedule will be against teams that are more like us. Hopefully these two matches will get us ready for next week."
Dowagiac will play three matches again next week. The Chieftains will host Otsego on Monday and then Comstock in a make up match on Tuesday. Dowagiac will wrap up Wolverine Conference regular season on Wednesday when it travels to Paw Paw.
All three matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
