NILES – Host Brandywine captured its own tennis invitational tournament championship on Saturday by edging Dowagiac.
The Lady Bobcats and Chieftains shared the team title last year.
Brandywine won all but one flight championship, allowing it to score 31 points. Dowagiac finished with one flight champion and amassed 25 points.
Bridgman was third with 14 points and Lake Michigan Catholic fourth with 10 points.
Dowagiac's lone championship came at No. 4 singles as Shelly Urbanski defeated Aubrey Espick of Brandywine in the finals, 6-4 and 6-1.
Taylor Townsend, Ashley Smith and Calie Daniels all finished second at one, two and three singles.
Dowagiac's four doubles teams also finished second to Brandywine.
They consisted of Kate Duszynski and Kayleigh Sundman, Elizabeth Kolden and Tonya Scherer, Katie Tyrakowski and Jessica Robinson, and Kristan Stelmasiak and Ami Sarao.
"Overall, we beat the teams and players we had to beat," Dowagiac coach Chuck Rubino said. "In the finals we won just one head-to-head match with Brandywine, but we were competitive. I was really pleased with how competitive we were in a lot of those matches."
