Marcellus captured the Chieftain Invitational Soccer Tournament on Saturday at Dowagiac Union High School with a pair of dramatic victories.
The Wildcats edged Dowagiac 3-2 in a shoot out in the opening match and then edged Brandywine 1-0 in their second match.
Dowagiac defeated Brandywine 3-0 in the third and final match of the round robin tournament.
Marcellus rallied from a pair of deficits to upset the Chieftains.
Dowagiac led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Adam Hess in the seventh minute.
The Chieftains led 2-1 in the 53rd minute on a goal by Clay Hewitt.
Marcellus got the equalizer late in the match and then won the shoot out 3-2.
Dowagiac outshot the Wildcats 17-3. Chieftain keeper Art Springsteen had one save.
Against Brandywine, Tony Black scored a pair of goals to lead the Chieftains to victory.
Dowagiac also got a goal from Jon Mitchell. Mitchell's goal in the 14th minute was assisted by Josh Deuel.
Black scored both of his goals in the second half.
"We don't have a game until Wednesday and that's good because we are a tired team," Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. "We need to practice and work on some things. The South Haven match hurt us for the rest of the week. We had to play so hard in that match."
The Chieftains (4-5, 0-1 Wolverine) will host Three Rivers on Wednesday in a Wolverine Conference match. The varsity match is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.
