Equestrian team’s first meet Sunday

The Dowagiac Equestrian team will have its first meet of the season on Sunday at 8 a.m. at the Berrien County Youth Fair grounds in Berrien Springs.
The team will be competing with other Division B schools. There are five riders on the team this year.
The lone senior riding for Dowagiac is Sara Ausra. She is pictured here with her 26-year-old Arabian mare, Starbella. Ausra has competed for Dowagiac since 2003 and competes in a variety of classes.
Her favorite class is Saddle Seat Equitation, she said.
Kayla Dewey, Elizabeth Gokey, Kelsey Podell and Karlee Rife make up the remainder of the team.
Riders will be participating in a variety of classes, some of which include: Fitting and Showing, Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunt Seat Bareback, Western Equitation, Trail, Flag Race and Two-Person Relay.
The team is coached by Erin Ausra and Brittany McCormick.
