The Dowagiac varsity golf team opened up Wolverine Conference play by hosting a league jamboree Monday morning.
Dowagiac finished seventh at Hampshire Country Club in its inaugural conference meet.
Gull Lake was the overall winner as it posted a team score of 153.
South Haven finished second with a 154, while Otsego was third, also with a 154. South Haven finished second by virtue of the fifth-man tiebreaker.
Vicksburg took fourth with a round of 158, while Plainwell was fifth with a 160. Allegan earned sixth place with a score of 173. The Tigers beat out the Chieftains for sixth place because Dowagiac did not have a fifth-man score to draw from.
Dowagiac played with just four players on Monday.
Finishing eighth was Comstock, which tied with Three Rivers with a score of 174.
Paw Paw finished 10th with a score of 191.
Adam Milbecker of Otsego earned medalist honors on Monday with a fine round of 35.
Kyle Schau and Matt Howe, both of Gull Lake, finished second with a 36. Ryan Marks of South Haven also shot 36.
Charlie Smith of Otsego and Dan Schiedel of Vicksburg rounded out the top five with a score of 37.
Nick Krizinski and Kevin Proshwitz, both of whom shot 40 on their home course, led Dowagiac. Mike Hoff finished with a 43, while Richie Hutchinson shot 50.
Gull Lake leads the standings after the first jamboree with 10 points. The league uses a 10-point scoring system with each team getting one less point than the team ahead of it in the standings.
Dowagiac has four points after the first jamboree.
The Wolverine Conference gets back together on Thursday when it heads to Otsego where they will play at the Prairiewood Golf Course.
