CASSOPOLIS – Only one of the four write-in candidates from the Aug. 8 primary election qualified for a spot on the Nov. 7 general election ballot now that the Cass County Board of Canvassers certified results.
According to the official results, only Silver Creek Township Republican John Hrycko made the ballot with 80 votes in District 1 for the Board of Commissioners race against Democrat Ed Goodman, appointed to complete Republican Terri Kitchen's term.
District 4 Commissioner Alan R. Northrop, R-Marcellus, ran as a write-in against Democratic nominee Bill Steele after not filing for re-election in May, but fell short of the 10-vote threshold with seven.
So did Democrat E. Clark Cobb with nine in District 11 against Republican John Cureton.
In District 11, Democrat Minnie Warren is unopposed with Republican write-in Peter Siewert finishing with two votes.
County Clerk-Register Barb Wilson said Friday afternoon that canvassing began Wednesday, Aug. 9, but continued until the following Tuesday, Aug. 15, before returns became official.
Wilson said if unsuccessful write-in candidates try again in November, it would be without party affiliation.
