Youth Fair crowns king, queen

BERRIEN SPRINGS – The Court of Honor for the 2006 Berrien County Youth Fair was selected Sunday.
Crowned fair queen for 2006 was Ava Koebel of Three Oaks. Her parents are Terry and Jennie Koebel.
Cody Hardin of Eau Claire was named king. His parents are James and Rebecca Hardin.
Allie Wesner of Buchanan was named the 2006 Miss Congeniality. Her parents are Allen and Annette Wesner.
Mr. Congeniality was presented to Logan Monroe of Baroda. His parents are Jeffrey and Gwendolyn Monroe.
The new fair queen Koebel has been an exhibitor at the Berrien County Youth Fair since 1993 and has shown beef, dairy, chickens, rabbits, photography, sewing and horticulture. She is a 2006 graduate of River Valley High School. Koebel plans to attend Lake Michigan College then Michigan State University to major in Ag Communications and minor in Agri-Business.
She hopes to be in advertising and public relations for a company such as Farm Bureau or Michigan Milk Producers.
Koebel is employed at El Rancho Grande. She turns 18 this week during the fair.
Hardin, the newly crowned BCYF King, has exhibited horses, fruits, vegetables, woodwork, and has been in the tractor operator's program since 1999.
He is a junior at Michigan Lutheran High School and plans to attend Martin Luther College after graduating to become a Lutheran music teacher and director.
Hardin enjoys playing musical instruments, sports, collecting state quarters, watching and editing movies, working with electronics and working at his family farm.
This week during the fair, the new court of honor will hand out ribbons and trophies, attend fair events and represent the fair in many public relations roles.
The Berrien County Youth Fair officially opened at 11 a.m. today and ends on Saturday.
