Man drowns Saturday in Lake Michigan

HAGAR TOWNSHIP – A man drowned Saturday in Lake Michigan while canoeing.
Lt. Milford Russell of the Berrien County Sheriff's Department stated in a press release deputies were dispatched Saturday at 4:19 p.m. to a possible drowning in Lake Michigan off Camp Warren in Hagar Township.
Two men were canoeing when the canoe tipped over. The report stated only one of the men made it to shore.
The Berrien County Sheriff's Department Dive/Recovery Team was called to begin a search at daybreak. A United States Coast Guard helicopter assisted deputies in the search.
The helicopter spotted the victim after sunrise at about 6:58 a.m., the release stated. Recovery was made at 7:43 a.m.
The victim is a 22-year-old male. Next of kin has not been notified as yet. Witnesses at the scene had no contact information for the victim to give to the police.
The incident remains under investigation.
